Jews and non-Jews around the world were equally horrified to see the October 7, 2023 attack — a genocidal terror offense perpetrated by Hamas against the peoples of Israel — being celebrated in major metropolitans around the world by terror sympathizers.

Although support for the October 7 massacres is certainly a minority held view, it is a very vocal one on academic spaces. Why is that?

As post secondary students in North America, we know the answer. Although Universities’ administrations state that they promote a “plurality of opinions,” on the ground it is not often the case. For decades, many professors in the social sciences systematically demonize and dehumanize Israel — we say Israel and not the state of Israel because the way in which hatred of Israel is being presented long crossed the lines of “legitimate criticism of the Israeli government” and has shamelessly, uncritically, and un-ethically expended to Israel as an idea, to all Israelis, and to all Jewish people in the diaspora. Whether criticism or antisemitism, it cannot be the case that young impressionable students will continue to consume anti-Israel without any counter facts, side of the story and other narratives
